The Baptism Ceremony

Sarah Graves' Baptism day is one of the days in her life that I dreamt about before she was here.  I wanted our family and friends to be with us and I envisioned it being a celebration for this new little life that has been entrusted to us.  Well, I got my exact vision.  Our baby girl was baptized on Saturday, April 3rd at Trinity Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge.  Trinity is where I was confirmed and Aaron and I were married, so it holds a special place for us.  Our parents, grandparents, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends came to share this with us.  Sarah Graves wore a beautiful dress and bonnet made for her by my grandmother, her GG, and she had special jewelry to wear given to her by my parents, Aaron's Mom, and my grandmother, Maw Maw Yvonne.
Her godmother is my dear friend Alexis.  Alexis and I have been friends now for almost 20 years (gulp) and have shared many good times together.  Sarah Graves is lucky to have Aunt Lexie in her life and I hope they share some adventures together.
Father Tim performed the ceremony and he was so nice.  He admitted during the homily that when I called the church and they told him a woman in Atlanta wanted him to baptize her baby, he was expecting to speak to a crazy woman.  After he talked to me he realized that I was only a little crazy!  He was very comfortable with baby girl and she snuggled right into him and didn't mind having water poured on her.  He was even so thoughtful to give Sarah Graves a prayer book with a note written inside it for her.
When I scheduled a private ceremony for the baptism, I expected that the church wouldn't have any flowers or anything, but because the ceremony was just before the Easter vigil service, the church was full of Easter lilies and looked absolutely gorgeous!  It was also very special that the lay eucharistic minister who assisted at the baptism was also the same one who assisted at our wedding.  So nice to feel like there is continuity in life even when you move away and so many things change.

I love these!!!! Would you ever have imagined that we would still somehow find ourselves at Trinity 20 years later?!?! Susan and Mike would be so proud-or at least they would be crying GOOD tears at this. I promise to be at least as good a godparent (if not better) as Ryan was to Austin.
