Super Birthday

Image
My birthday fell on Super Bowl Sunday. I was disappointed that the Saints weren't in the game, but had a fun day anyway. Charlie picked a bouquet of flowers as my gift from him. He was totally thrilled to give it to me! He admitted though that he fell asleep on the way to get them, so Aaron picked them out! Ha! Aaron picked up doughnuts as a birthday treat and everyone enjoyed them!  After listening to Sarah Graves sing at church, Lovie and Pops took us all out for a lovely brunch. The food was really good and afterward we enjoyed a yummy carrot cake that Lovie made me.  My big gift was a fun surprise - tickets to see Jimmy Buffett! There were clues to help me guess it before I opened it! It was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed just relaxing with everyone and having a day to be together.

100 Days of School

Image
We made it to the 100th day of school! I am definitely part of that "we" because some evenings I'm not sure we will make it another day! Homework, school activities, and all the stuff we have to remember to do is sometimes more than we can handle! But it somehow all gets done and we look forward to the fun stuff! Charlie was definitely excited for the 100th day of school! His class made it fun by dressing up, practicing counting to 100, and enjoying snacks everyone brought in by the 100's!  We had a fun time making his shirt, too! We got our inspiration on Pinterest and set about to make our version! First, he counted out 100 pom pops, then we used the hot glue gun to make them stick on the shirt, and puff paint was the last step. I drew the design in pencil, then went over it with puff paint. To fill the larger areas, I used a paintbrush to spread the paint out so it wasn't too thick or heavy. Charlie came up with saying, "100 Days of Happy." H

Enjoying building with Magnetiles! He loves them. Always building something. Charlie and Miles love to play together! Such cute buddies!

School Days

I really appreciate that the teachers snap a few pictures of big activities at school. The older they get, the less they ask parents to join in, so it's nice to have some mementos of these days. The Atlanta Track Club has a program called Kilometer kids and they break up running a marathon into small chunks. These are the kids in 2nd grade who participated and completed all the miles.  Sarah Graves loves to do art related projects at school! I think they were making their own planet. She doesn't love spelling or grammar, but in general, she likes school and seems to be happy to go. I figure that's the biggest part of the battle, enjoying going! She and Henry partnered on this poster telling about the solar system. She's in the boys are kind of gross phase, so no boyfriends or anything like that. I think we are good keeping it that way for a while!

Camera Man

Charlie continues to love to use the camera! He uses my old pocket camera and has a great time photographing the world as he sees it. Much of his world involves Legos!  And Star Wars! He definitely loves to have a sword fight with Aaron! Lucy has been a willing (or at least available) subject many times. Occasionally, he let's me get a pic of him. Then, he discovered how to take selfies with that camera! There are some pretty funny ones. Who knows? Maybe he will follow in the footsteps of his great uncle and cousins and be a photographer one day.

Sissy Shopping

Now that Sarah Graves is getting a bit older, gift cards and money are fun for her birthday because she gets to shop! She really enjoys shopping. It makes me feel proud to see how she comes alive in a mall and is willing to go from store to store just taking it all in. It also makes me worried for the teenage years! A recent trip to Barnes and Noble delighted her. She picked out a Lego Friends set and a book of short biographies about strong women throughout history.

Celebrating 8 Years

SG had a Brownie troop meeting on her birthday, so we had a chance to celebrate with her friends there! We brought cupcakes and her troop sang happy birthday to her! It's hard to imagine we had such glorious, warm weather in January!  We came back from Brownies and Lovie, Pops, Nay, and Olivia came over to see her birthday surprise and open family gifts. Aaron and Charlie worked hard while we were gone to get her big gift ready!  She was very surprised to see it assembled in her room!  Charlie was su proud that he help put her new desk together! We gave her a desk and Lovie and Pops gave her the chair to go with it! She has really wanted a desk to do her homework and drawings that she enjoys doing. Charlie gave her bath stuff that he couldn't wait for her to open! She had some awesome gifts from family! Squishies from Grancy and Ger Ger were a hit; fashion drawing tools from Gramma were exciting; a cool new outfit from Aunt Barb

Celebration with Unicorns and Art!

Image
Sarah Graves chose to mix her love of art and unicorns by having a unicorn themed party at Vinings School of Art. I have to say, this was the easiest party we have ever hosted and she loved it! A sign welcoming the birthday girl! These unicorn themed plates and napkins were the inspiration for everything else. Our elves were all set to observe! Lovie, Nay, and Pops outdid themselves on this magical cake! Sissy asked for these cookies that are cutout sugar cookies covered in powder sugar. She was thrilled and everyone else enjoyed them too! We served her favorite breadsticks and pizza from Domino's before they started on their art. She had a fun time with her friends! Time to get down to making art! Sarah Graves designed this art project for her party and they came out really cute! the kids painted the star and unicorn, put on glitter, then put all the pieces in plaster to make unique sculpt
