Check-Up

Sarah Graves went for her two-year check-up.  She weighs 27 pounds and 6 ounces (58th percentile), she's 34 inches tall (60th percentile), and her head circumference is 18 and 3/4 inches (33rd percentile).  She was the sweetest girl there and listened so well.  She did everything they asked her to and never complained, even when she got a shot.  She really is a rockstar!  The only thing she didn't want to do is let me take a picture of her wearing the most adorable little paper exam gown.  It looked so cute on her and she wouldn't leave it on long enough for me to take a picture!
Overall, she is doing great.  They did a hearing test and her left ear passed with flying colors, but the machine could not get a reading on her right ear.  They tried several times and decided they think she has some wax build up in her ear causing the machine to not be able to get a read.  They decided they will re-test her at 2 and a half.  I am pretty confident that she hears fine, so we'll see if it comes out well in several months.

Developmentally she seems to be meeting all the milestones for a two year old.  She is talking, making phrses of several words, she stacks blocks, she climbs stairs, she knows the parts of her body, and she knows her own name!

Even though we are using Dr. Sears' vaccine schedule, we have deviated from it a bit.  At 12 months I skipped the MMR and at 18 months we skipped the chicken pox vaccine.  Aaron and I decided to give the MMR vaccine at this appointment and she doesn't seem to have any reaction to it like fever or redness.  We are still holding off on the chicken pox until we decide what to do about it.  Aaron feels really strongly about how it is made and would prefer not to give it.

I brought a few questions with me and they gave us some useful answers.  One thing I have wondered about is how her poops are a little unusual in consistency and smell really sour.  The pediatrician suggested that we consider dairy foods in her diet that might be causing it or that we can try a pro biotic.  The only dairy that she eats with any regularity is yogurt.  I think a chewable pro biotic would definitely be something we can try.

I also asked about allergies and her constant runny nose.  The pediatrician suggested giving her children's zyrtec or allegra for the allergy symptoms.  We picked some up last night and will give it a try today.

I also asked about her constantly saying that a part of her body hurts.  The pediatrician said not to worry about it unless she constantly says one particular body part hurts or we can see redness and swelling.  That makes me feel better because I hate to ignore her complaints, but I also don't want to jump at every little pain she has.
