Science at Home

Charlie and I started a fun science project to make a bouncing egg by soaking an egg in vinegar.
On day one we noted how the egg sank and the calcium carbonate in the shell reacted with the vinegar causing bubbling on the shell.

On day two the egg was larger and it was floating!

Day three the shell had dissolved and the egg was looking larger.

The instructions said to let it soak for up to 10 days. On day 5, Charlie got eager (and bored) and decided to bounce the egg while I was on a conference call. The egg burst like a water balloon full of vinegar! The science lesson turned into a cleaning lesson at that point!

I was sort of sorry we didn't get it see it through and see if the egg might have been bouncy. Maybe we will try again...
