Living Nativity

At church we happened to hear about another church doing a living nativity that night. We were looking for something that would give us Christmas spirit and decided this might be just the thing.
We had never been to an event like this, but had heard about them. As we walked up, we were greeted by guards who wanted to know our reason for coming to Bethlehem. They directed us into the walls of the city where we were presented with the scrolls to sign our names for the census. The kids were given passports at this point. They love to get things checked-off or filled out!
As we made our way, different stalls were set up for the marketplace where we were greeted, told about the wares they sold (herbs, gems, fabrics, etc.) and each directed us on our path to meet the baby Jesus.
We made our way to crafts and cookies where the kids got their shepherds' hats.
Then, we made our way to the sanctuary whee the nativity was performed. After the nativity, we went out to see the animals who would have been in the stable.

I couldn't believe how into the animals they were! Charlie even fed them! The camel was amazingly soft!

I was grateful that in the midst of all the Christmas bustle, we were able to take an evening to be together and be reminded of exactly what this time of year is really about.
