Rodeo Roundup

Sarah Graves and I went for a weekend at Camp Misty Mountain for her to ride horses and learn about barrel racing. We shared our cabin with another mom and daughter and enjoyed making new friends with them!

Sarah Graves was so excited to set up her hammock!

It was really cold out, but our cabin was quite cozy.

On Saturday, we headed to the barns to get started with horseback riding.

First, the girls had to practice how to navigate the barrels. Not the horseback riding she envisioned!

Getting in the sun felt really good on a cold morning!

Sarah Graves was so excited that her horse was named Sherlock! Her friend Marcela had a stuffed turtle that she named Sherlock and made up a song about Sherlock last year, so SG thought it was very funny that the horse was named Sherlock!

We had time to spend in the barn learning about the horses, how they are cared for, some of their stories and how they came to a Girl Scout camp, and also learned to muck the stalls and tack the horses.

The girls rode in the morning and after lunch giving them two long sessions on the horse and plenty of time to learn about the horses.

Sis enjoyed the hammock in her free time. We also played cards with our new friends and hung out with the other campers and camp counselors singing camp songs and making s'mores in the fireplace.

My girl was really excited to be on the horse and I really enjoyed having some time with her to do something she loved!
